FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Co-Founder of The Seattle Lesbian & Freelance Writer Kate Morgan West Featured in March 2011 Issue of Curve Magazine
Seattle, WA – March 8, 2011 Kate Morgan West, co-founder of The Seattle Lesbian and freelance writer, is featured in the March 2011 issue of Curve Magazine, the best-selling lesbian publication in the United States. The story, by Lisa Gunther, dishes the details about how and why West and Sarah Toce created the only news site exclusively for lesbians in the Seattle area.
West has been writing all her life and has been published in the Everett Herald, Illuminati Northwest Anthology, A Suburban Treehugger, The Green Mom, Merrybegot, TerraFemme, The Seattle Lesbian and, most recently, the Seattle Examiner. In addition to writing and raising a teen son, West is also involved in her community and has volunteered with organizations including Equal Rights Washington/Lambda Legal, the NOH8 Campaign and Lifelong AIDS Alliance/Seattle AIDS Walk. She writes about LGBT rights and social activism, queer literature, films & performers, and green living/sustainability.
Before West and Toce founded The Seattle Lesbian, there was no news outlet specifically for lesbians in the Seattle metro area. The two had discussed the need for such a publication for at least a year before they took the plunge. Seattle lesbians can read about local events, celebrity interviews, politics, reviews, parenting and much more.
Curve Magazine is available in many large bookstores, Barnes & Noble, Borders and online at http://www.curvemag.com/. Pick up the March 2011 issue today!

Co-Founders of The Seattle Lesbian, Sarah Toce and Kate Morgan West, To Be Honored at Gay City Health Project’s LGBT Library One-Year Anniversary

Seattle, WA – January 25, 2011 Editor-in-Chief Sarah Toce and Executive Editor Kate Morgan West, the co-founders of Seattle’s only lesbian-oriented publication The Seattle Lesbian, will be honored on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Gay City Health Project’s LGBT Library One-Year Anniversary party. Toce and West will be special guests at this event in honor of their work to bring unity to Seattle’s LGBT community.
Toce and West have both donated time to the community and believe social activism is extremely important. The two writers volunteered with the NOH8 Campaign in summer 2010 during the open shoot at the W Hotel in Seattle, assisting with signing in several hundred people, interviewing Adam Bouska, Jeff Parshley and other attendees, and networking with those present. West has previously volunteered with Equal Rights Washington/Lambda Legal collecting signatures for marriage equality and with Lifelong AIDS Alliance/Seattle AIDS Walk putting together a team for fundraising and participating as a walker over the past few years. Toce has previously been involved with GLAAD, volunteering at various events for the organization, and has also worked with Team in Training, raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Both women started the publication The Seattle Lesbian as an outlet and a voice for the community, providing readers with news, celebrity interviews, lifestyle and events information, reviews and more for the LGBT community, with an emphasis on the L. They believe there is plenty of room for a diverse array of publications in Seattle and set out with the goal to bring more unity to the area, supporting and networking with other LGBT organizations, and welcoming an array of writers to their staff. Their work since 2010 has focused on unification rather than division. One of their last events involved participating in a fundraiser for Hivster.com and Gay City Health Project.
This event is a chance for the greater LGBT community and its allies to come out in support of two great organizations, Gay City Health Project and the LGBT Library, and an opportunity to network and socialize with both Toce and West. Susan Rees, Resource Coordinator at Gay City Health Project, hopes to honor the two as special guests for their “hard work in bringing the community together.”
All are invited to attend on Thursday, February 17, 2011, 6pm-8pm, at Kaladi Brothers Coffee, 511 E. Pike St., Seattle, WA. It would be helpful to the organizations for those planning to attend to R.S.V.P. on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=182902778407305).
